White Crappie
Crappies are plentiful through the contiguous US except for the Northwest. They are among the most popular species of fish among anglers who seek freshwater pan fish.
They stay close to shore and structure in shallow water in spring for spawning. They move to deeper, cooler water in summer. Trolling at various depths is effective to help find fish, then anchor and fish minnows, jigs or very lightweight small spinner baits. They are excellent broiled or fried.
